Helpless in own area!

TWO weeks ago, my neighbours and I confronted a group of men putting up a big promotional banner and placing stickers in residential area, only to be threatened by them.

They warned us that they would come looking for us if we removed the banner and stickers that were promoting a so-called breakthrough skin product.

We removed them and reported the matter to the ************** City Council but the men traced one of us and demanded the return of their banner.

We had destroyed the banner and out of fear, we had no choice but to pay for the cost of making it.

My story is not to highlight our vigilante action but rather the helplessness of residents who it appears have to live with people who put up such materials on just about every nook and corner.

The local authorities can’t seem to act effectively against them because these irresponsible people are all over the place.

This issue is never-ending and we can’t expect enforcement teams to go around daily just to take down banners and remove stickers.

The abundance of banners, buntings and advertising materials in Selangor is a clear indication of inaction by the authorities.

Of late, banners, whether legal or illegal, have been mushrooming in highly populated cities and townships, and the respective councils are finding various ways to solve the ongoing problem.

Most were illegal and commonly found on lamp posts, signboards and even on trees in busy commercial areas.

So what if the local councils, like Kuala Lumpur City Hall, stop issuing licences to companies to put up banners and buntings? You think they care. You think they don’t know enforcement teams have more important matters to attend to?

Does that mean the fight to rid our neighbourhoods of such garbage is left to us?
We should merely inform the authorities and not take a vigilante stand, lest ‘wanted’ posters of us are nailed to trees!

It's Over!!!

After all that drama, Misbun Sidek will not return to the national set-up.
Misbun rejected BA of Malaysia's (BAM) offer to train backup players. He submitted his letter to BAM president Datuk Seri Nadzmi Salleh on Wednesday.

Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek tried to patch things up between Misbun and the national body since the former quit on Dec 31.

Ahmad Shabery was clueless about the turn of events while National Sports Council (NSC) director-general Datuk Zolkples Embong said he was told about it on Wednesday.

"I'll need to look at the full report from BAM before I can comment further," was Ahmad Shabery's short reply.

Meanwhile, BAM deputy-president Tengku Kamil Ismail Idris Shah told reporters: "Misbun has rejected our offer and we respect his decision. We thank him for his past contributions."

Nevertheless, it remained unclear why Misbun rejected the offer. However, it is believed it is because he won't be handling world No 1 Lee Chong Wei.

The Penangite is now training under Tey Seu Bock and Rashid Sidek.

The relationship between Misbun and Chong Wei seemed strained of late. Both were at Astro Arena's first anniversary celebration on Sunday but they hardly spoke with each other
.
The Exco also announced former women's singles player Wong Mew Choo as coach starting May 1.

Let's hope Ahmad Shabery keeps his words to look into the report. It may not be able to bring Misbun back but it's important to find out how the contract was drafted. It's obvious something is not right here, Misbun didn't state his reason for not accepting the new role yet the coaching and training committee (ctc) unanimously accepted his request? Here, did they knew what to expect? Is there any conspiracy? Over to you guys!

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY

Mom, I would like to thank you for all your support and love. I am here because of you and for that I was forever grateful.  Everyday I feel so blessed to have a strong, beautiful, understanding, loving mom like you.  Mothers are truly amazing people. They put up with a lot and still keep on giving and loving.

To all the mom’s out there we both wish you a happy mother’s day and thanks for all that you do.  Happy Mother’s day to our best friends We are probably be missing a few mothers, sorry, but we love you all!

A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts. ~Washington Irving

With love,

Awesome BookFair At PWTC

I went to International Book Fair at Putra World Trade Center last Sunday. This gathering  is the main annual meeting place of publishers, book sellers, writers and readers. It is important cultural activity for both, book-lovers and for the trade. The distinctive feature of the International Book Fair is the abundance of cultural events, especially meetings with the well known Malaysian and foreign writers. Cultural activities attract thousands of book lovers from Peninsular Malaysian and neighbourhood countries.

All the books were on sales discount's like crazy up to 70%. Unfortunately even it still 70% less I'm not affordable to grab a physical Education book cause it will cost me RM199 after less. T_T Might turned it into library at college when needed.  Huhuhu....

Took car and jammed!!! Of course there will be thousands of people, mothers carrying their children, sisters with brothers, friends, and artist. For not wasting my time, I used to grab novels for myself..

Fire Drill

People should never be notified when a fire drill will happen. This should be an absolute requirement everywhere. On real emergencies my co-workers’ first question is: “Was there a drill planned?” before getting to the nearest exit. This WILL (if it has not already) cost lives.

Last time we had a fire drill training at my office Menara TM.  Unfortunately, most people don't take fire drill training too seriously. Ask someone who has been in a fire…or trapped in a burning building how important it is to have fire drills….realizing that you can't ask the dead.

We develop crisis plans for a living, and train employees in them in stages from awareness to running realistic tests. The value of such training is not just to reduce the stress factor of a *real* emergency takes place (less stress means fewer mistakes), but also to identify issues and opportunities to further improve. The assumption that any plan is perfect is the most lethal mistake to make, and that will show itself to be a mistake at the worst possible moment..

We have come across big name companies that pass themselves off as crisis planners. Here is a tip: if you have more than 9 scenarios in your crisis planning you have a problem – you will have something that is inflexible, unrealistic, impossible to exercise and that can get people killed. Please start again..

It is much better to get used to the motions and experience of what you are going to do in a drill and use your imagination to anticipate how you would feel to help yourself not panic in a real emergency. Note: these are professionals and the memo makes it clear that everyone is to participate. I would expect them to react properly when the alarm goes for real – especially since it would not be pre-announced.

About Dart

Dart???

Darts is one of the countless games you can enjoy with your friends and family after a few rounds of beer on a relaxing day out - or even in the comfort of your own home if you own a darts board yourself. Some people tend to feel reluctant to take part in darts games due to lacking knowledge of the rules, or fearing that they'll look goofy trying to make a nice throw.

Knowing the rules of the game could do wonders. Imagine playing a game without knowing the do’s and don’ts. For sure, losing will just be around the corner but since this a pretty competitive game; one has to know the rules to getting the most applause in social gatherings, gaining new friends at the local watering hole and winning the game.

Playing darts is just easy as counting from 1 to 3. The rules are not complex. All you need is to form two groups that would make up a team composed of two or more players. A warm-up is a must. Each player is allowed to have nine throws. To determine who goes first, a dart is thrown by a respective player chosen by its team members at the start of the game. The player that throws the dart closest to the bull’s eye will be the first team to throw the darts. Each player will take turn throwing three darts. At the end of the three throws, the players will alternate.

The oche (pronounced as o-kee) is known as the throwing line. It plays a very important role in dart playing. A player must avoid accidentally stepping over or crossing over the oche while playing. If the player does accidentally step on the oche, the throw is banned and the player must wait for his turn to be able to throw again.

The player of each team alternates between throwing three darts at the dartboard. To score points, a player must hit the numbered segments. For the score to be counted, the darts must remain on the dartboard for 5 seconds.

If a dart sticks to another dart or falls, no point corresponds to it.

The circle with the numbers is called the target area. Clockwise from the top position the numbers are 20, 1, 18, 4, 13, 6, 10, 15, 2, 17, 3, 19, 7, 16, 8, 11, 14, 9, 12, and 5. Each of these numbers has a pie-shaped wedge that corresponds to it. If a dart lands in the wedge, the number posted on the outer ring is the score. If it lands on the outer ring, your score becomes twice the number hit. If the dart is on the inner ring, your score is thrice the number hit and if the dart lands in the other areas, you do not score a point. The circle in the middle of the dartboard is called the bull. It also has two parts known as the outer part or the single-bull and the inner center part known as the double-bull or widely known as the bull’s eye. If a dart lands on the outer bull, you get 25 points and if the dart lands on the bull’s eye you score 50 points. The highest possible score is achieved when the three darts land in the triple twenty on the dartboard making your score a smashing 180. That makes up for 60 points for each dart you threw.

Getting your throw perfected will take some time, but the greatest barrier is usually in the beginning of your learning, when you have to familiarize yourself with the technique for throwing a dart in general. Take it simple and listen to any tips you're given - it's actually a very simple process which will surely come naturally to you after just a few tries, but it will take quite a lot of practice before you've perfected it.

Happy BUMIKU HIJAU Day!!!

Thank God it's already Friday and do you know it's not an ordinary Friday because today is the Earth Day

In case you didn't know, Earth Day is a day dedicated to inspire awareness and appreciation to the earth. It was first held on this date, 22 April 1970 in US but then became an international event in 1990.

I'm not a hardcore environmentalist, but I do support activities that are related to loving and preserving the earth; and I'm lucky working in an organization that supports the same initiatives too. Through out this week various activities have been conducted in Menara TM like writing pledges, bring your own food container day, quizzes and info sharing.

Today, in conjunction with the big day we are encouraged to wear green in showing our support to the mother nature apart from other activities like collection of items for reuse and recycle programs.

My notes!

With my colleagues in supporting Green Day which is no plastic!

Go Greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!

It's never too late to show your support, so why not join the celebration? Simple activities like printing or writing on recycle paper, plugging off electrical items from the sockets, separate trash according to its types; either aluminium, glass or plastic and throw in recycle bins, going shopping with own grocery bags and many other simple, daily activities still counts. Let us appreciate what's left to be appreciated and let's go green...
